JAMES E. ALFORD, JR., PH.D.  

James E. Alford, Jr., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and Director of the Higher Education Administration Program in Leadership Studies at William Paterson University. He has extensively researched Historically Black Colleges and Universities, closely examining the historical trends and movements that have led to their overall development. Dr. Alford's scholarly publications include works on leadership, student activism, and alums involvement at historically Black institutions.  As a graduate of a Historically Black University, he has dedicated himself to bringing about awareness and understanding of these institutions and the significant role they have undertaken and are still undertaking in preparing African Americans for success. 

As the Director of the Higher Education Administration Program, Dr. Alford is committed to preparing and training highly competent professionals in educational leadership.  Serving as the Program’s first Director, he has chosen to use his platform to build much-needed bridges between faculty, staff, and students as a way to create a culturally sensitive community that values educational excellence while simultaneously bringing attention to the ongoing plight of those who have been historically and systematically oppressed. Before joining the faculty at William Paterson, Dr. Alford served 14 years as a higher education administrator.  

Dr. Alford received his B.A. in Business Administration from Dillard University in New Orleans, LA, an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Higher Education Administration from the University of New Orleans, an M.Phil. from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in History and Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. 

WILLIAM E. HUMPHRIES, III, M.D., M.P.H., M.B.A.   

William E. Humphries, III, M.D., M.P.H., M.B.A., is a board-certified neurosurgeon specializing in treating neurovascular diseases that affect the brain and spine. Dr. Humphries is a Georgia native who attended high school and college in Atlanta. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Morehouse College with academic and music scholarships and graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Biology. He obtained his medical and Master of Business Administration degrees from Duke University School of Medicine. He received an MPH in Epidemiology from The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill during his medical school enrollment. Dr. Humphries completed his neurosurgical residency training at the Texas Medical Center at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Afterward, he completed a combined fellowship in cerebrovascular/endovascular neurosurgery at the Semmes-Murphey Neurologic and Spine Institute in Memphis, Tennessee.
 

 CHRISTOPHER BAZEMORE, PSY.D., L.C.P.C. 

Christopher Bazemore, Psy.D., L.C.P.C., is a continuing education advisor for counseling and psychology courses for the American College of Mental Health Education and a psychotherapist in Baltimore, Maryland, specializing in providing therapy to patients in abusive situations. His treatment of patients centers on healing, recovery, and attaining stability. His work includes addressing homelessness and treating substance use disorders in South and West Baltimore. Dr. Bazemore also published a book, “Authentic Change for a Happy Life," which addresses the significance of taking authority to become definite and holding to your thoughts of truth. Dr. Bazemore’s affiliations include the Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA), the American Group Psychotherapy Association, the American Counseling Association, and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.  

ROOSEVELT COHENS, ED.D., L.I.C.S.W., L.C.S.W.-C. 

Roosevelt Cohens, Ed.D., L.I.C.S.W., L.C.S.W.-C.  has over 25 years of leadership and clinical experience as a clinical social worker specializing in anger management, restorative justice, substance use counseling, and cognitive behavior therapy. His academic expertise and interests include but are not limited to ex-offender re-entry, diversity, equity, inclusion, and administration within community-based organizations, universities, colleges, and schools. He is a proud alumnus of Howard University, where he received a Master of Social Work. Dr. Cohens also holds a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership and Human Development. He is a Certified Anger Management Counselor with train-the-trainer experience in Balanced and Restorative Justice.
